Joris Vanvinckenroye
One of Belgium's most creative bass players ... his first mission was to become a pilot, but after a mind-blowing experience playing with his toy-cars on the keys of his mother's piano he changed plan and even added the lyre, the flute, several percussion instruments, guitar and violin. But all that was not cool enough; the double bass was the solution! Later even, by adding lots of loops and effects, he made himself a 'one-man double bass orchestra' and in this formation 'BASta!', he's giving concerts all over Europe. Very cool!
But first he got fame with the successful band 'Troissœur' and at one point he decided to go his own way. He founded the chamber rock band 'Aranis', and impressed the Belgian music scene with his cinematic fusion style.
Joris mixes all types of music and uses elements from the classical world, rock, jazz & folk and as a critic from 'De Tijd' remarked: "In his head, Astor Piazzolla lives right next-door to John Cale and Jethro Tull ...".
He got lots of success with his compositions and Aranis was praised by the 'Jeugd en Muziek' prize for chamber music, the 'Klara Trofee' for the most intriguing concert and the 'Mano Mundo Public Award'. In different projects he cooperated with Sandy Dillon, Daniel B, Satisho Takeishi, Toon Fret, Jan Marmenout, Björk, Robby Lakatos and others.
This all-round bass player fits completely into the dromedary profile, not only because we're having a great bass player here, but also because he always brings his double bass orchestra with him!
